Mexico Popocatepetl Volcano Spews Hot Gas, Ash

The disaster prevention agency in Cenapred, Mexico, reported 148 explosions, as well as five moderate ones, carrying water vapor, gas and light amount of ashes emanated from Mexico’s Popocatepetl stratovolcano, Tuesday, July 30. The report also stated slight ash fell roughly 36 kilometers to the west, in the Ozumba municipality, as a result of the explosions. The 5,426-meter (17,797-foot) volcano has been especially active in recent months, spewing hot rock and towering clouds of ash several times. (AP)
