Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi Lands in Houston Ahead of Howdy Modi Event
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Houston, Texas, Saturday, September 21, where he will seek to fire up thousands of Indian American supporters at a rally, shrugging off international criticism over a crackdown in disputed Kashmir. Modi has traveled to the United States to speak Friday, September 27, at the U.N. General Assembly.
Seven weeks after his government revoked the partial autonomy enjoyed by Muslim-majority Kashmir in a move that prompted anger in the region and in neighboring Pakistan, which also lays claim to it.
Modi is also scheduled to meet U.S. President Donald Trump, Sunday, September 22, in Houston at an Indian American “Howdy Modi!” rally, in a 50,000-seat stadium. (Reuters)
