Electronic Devices Used to Stop Cattle Theft in Madagascar

Authorities in Madagascar are putting electronic chips in cattle, in a bid to stop cattle theft in the countryside. It follows a campaign promise made by President Andry Rajoelina, who was elected at the beginning of this year. Cattle theft is a national plague in Madagascar with 30,000 animals stolen in 2017, according to the police and farmers. Security forces are often killed in clashes with thieves.
