Venezuelans March in Support of Maduro After Damning UN Report
Thousands of Venezuelans marched in Caracas, Saturday, July 13, in defense of the government of President Nicolas Maduro, following a damning United Nations report of death squads and murders in the divided OPEC nation.
U.N. human rights chief Michelle Bachelet visited Venezuela last month and met with Maduro and opposition leader Juan Guaido before the release of the report. The report claims the killings were part of a strategy by Maduro’s regime aimed at “neutralizing, repressing and criminalizing political opponents and people critical of the government,” which has accelerated since 2016.
But Maduro supporters have dismissed the report as lies. (Reuters)
