US Army Paratroopers Deploy to Middle East Amid Tensions with Iran after Qassam Soleimani Killing
Paratroopers from the US Army’s 82nd Airborne Division deploy from Fort Bragg to the Middle East, Sunday, January 5, as tensions mount in the region after a U.S. airstrike killed top Iranian general, Qassem Soleimani.

Huge crowds gathered Monday, January 6, in Tehran to mourn Soleimani, as his replacement vowed to take revenge for the U.S. airstrike that killed him, and U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to hit Iranian cultural sites if Iran does retaliate.
“They’re allowed to kill our people. They’re allowed to torture and maim our people. They’re allowed to use roadside bombs and blow up our people and we’re not allowed to touch their cultural sites? It doesn’t work that way,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One late Sunday.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said in a letter to her Democratic colleagues that the House will vote this week on a war powers resolution “to limit the President’s military actions regarding Iran.” (VOA/AFP)
