Scott Breen says metal cans matter more than people realize. The U.S. produces 135 billion cans a year, about 250,000 per minute, many used for food like produce, pet food, and infant formula. But a 50% tariff on steel, especially tin plate steel used for food cans, is driving up costs. Since domestic production can’t meet demand, manufacturers must import materials, raising prices and contributing to grocery sticker shock.
