As a mayor and as a state assemblyman, now-current U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-NJ-02) was a conservative Democrat. But once he entered Congress, Van Drew said it became clear that he was more conservative than the vast majority of his colleagues in the Democratic Party. So...he switched to the GOP. "If you believe in American exceptionalism, if you believe that the United States of America is the greatest gift from God, or if you believe in Americanism then there is no room for you in the Democratic Party," Van Drew said.
