Syrian Troops Seized Hilltop Village and Nearby Town
After fierce confrontations with insurgents entrenched in the area, Syrian troops seized the Tal Malah village and the nearby town of Jibeen in northern Syria, Monday, July 29. This is the first breakthrough for President Bashar Assad’s forces following weeks of intensive air and artillery bombardment. Over the last three years, the government regained control of most of the territory seized by the opposition in the early days of the civil conflict – now in its 9th year. More than 440,000 have been displaced escaping the airstrikes. (AP)
