Old Man Joe Forgot to Pardon His Buddy, Bob Menendez
In a rare moment in American history, a Democratic politician is actually going to go to prison. SHOCKING, I know.
Former Democratic U.S. Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) will be trading his cushy life for a 6-by-8 cell soon. Yes, you read that right – a Democrat is actually going to prison. According to Fox News, he was sentenced to go to prison for 11 years in his bribery and corruption case.
Menendez, 71, was found guilty on all 16 counts in his federal corruption trial, making history as the first sitting member of Congress to be convicted of such charges.
Defiant to the end, just like a Democrat, he told the judge that he’s a good guy saying, “in half-century of public service, I have done far more good than bad.”
The charges? A veritable buffet of corruption, including accepting hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes in exchange for political favors. Apparently, the senator took the term “public servant” a bit too literally, serving himself to a smorgasbord of illicit goodies.
But let’s not pretend this is an isolated incident. The annals of political history are littered with tales of Democratic leaders who couldn’t resist the siren call of corruption. Joe Biden comes to mind. Menendez just got caught and there weren’t any Dems around who cared enough to save him. Maybe he should have cut Joe and Hunter in on the deals and he would have been “safe.”
And so, as Bob Menendez shuffles off to the slammer, he is proving that even Democrats occasionally face consequences – when they’re no longer useful. If only he had stashed some gold bars at the White House, Old Man Joe might’ve remembered to save him.
