Military Drills Wrap Up Among NATO Countries and Georgia

After a two-week run, military drills involving Western NATO alliance members and “aspirant country” Georgia ended, Friday, August 9. More than 3,000 military servicemen from 14 NATO member and partner countries, including the United States, Britain, Latvia and Norway, had participated in the drills.

The Agile Spirit drills have been held annually since 2011 and make one of the elements of Georgia’s cooperation with the U.S. and NATO. These exercises train Georgian military for international peacekeeping missions. According to Georgian Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze, the 2019 drills were intended to maintain stability and security in the Black Sea region. (REUTERS)
