Mexico Snow-Capped El Popo Volcano Spews Smoke and Ash

Mexico’s Popocatepetl volcano unleashed a powerful explosion early Wednesday, July 24, spewing ash and smoke into the morning sky.
According to reports, the explosion occurred at 8:35 a.m. local time and a massive column of gas and ash was sent 1,200 meters above the volcano’s crater.
El Popo, as it is affectionately known locally, is one of Mexico’s most active volcanos. Emergency services department CENAPRED reported that in the past 24 hours, there have been 280 emissions from the volcano. (Reuters)
