Livingston County Commissioners in Michigan Vote to Document the Undocumented: Will Start Tracking Crimes by Illegal Aliens

September 25, 2024, 1:13 PM

Livingston County, Michigan, has taken a bold and necessary step to address the growing concern about illegal immigration and the crime it brings. In a move that’s sure to rile up critics and make legal experts nervous, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office will now track interactions with undocumented immigrants (illegal aliens), regardless of whether they are suspects, witnesses, or victims. The resolution passed unanimously. Sometimes, common sense really does win out.

A Smart move for safer streets.

Let’s not beat around the bush – illegal immigration has its consequences, and crime is one of them. While some people like to pretend that illegal aliens only come here to pick tomatoes or build homes, the reality is that illegal crossings bring criminal elements along for the ride.

Drug smuggling, human trafficking, and violent crimes don’t just stop at the border – and Livingston County politicians and officials aren’t interested in being the next soft spot for criminals to exploit. By tracking these interactions, the county hopes to get a clearer picture of what’s happening right here at home, rather than relying on speculative guesses or waiting for a national fix that will probably never come.

Figuring out what is going on.

Opponents love to talk about “fear-mongering” and “racial profiling,” but the facts are hard to ignore – and facts are EXACTLY what the Democrats don’t want exposed. They don’t want people to know what’s really going in their communities.

But Sheriff Mike Murphy says it’s time to find out what’s going on.Sure, critics will cry foul, claiming the policy is impractical or discriminatory, but let’s face it – if we don’t know how big the problem is, how are we supposed to fix it? Livingston County is taking the initiative, even if it means dealing with a few legal headaches down the road.

A law that could change everything.

Of course, we all know the legal vultures are circling. Some say the resolution won’t stand up to judicial scrutiny. But should that really stop the county from trying? Not at all. This is about doing what’s right for public safety. The argument that this will “scare” witnesses and victims into silence ignores the bigger picture: when crime rises because no one is tracking who’s committing it, we all suffer.

Lawsuits might happen, but at least Livingston County will have something to show for it – data that paints a clearer picture of the role illegal aliens are playing in local crime.

In a world where so many shy away from addressing the issue, Livingston County is standing tall, tackling the challenge head-on. Whether the resolution survives legal scrutiny or not, the effort to make the community safer by keeping tabs on illegal immigrants is a step in the right direction.
