Hewlett Packard Enterprise Wins $931 Million Pentagon Cloud Contract with Department of Defense
Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) has secured a $931 million contract from the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) to build a secure, high-performance cloud environment for the Pentagon, the company announced Tuesday, as the Department of Defense races to modernize its IT infrastructure and harness Artificial Intelligence to gain a military advantage.
The multi-year award will enable DISA to accelerate secure communications, rapidly deploy applications and leverage advanced AI and data analytics to improve outcomes for U.S. warfighters, HPE said.
The announcement comes one day after Amazon Web Services (AWS) revealed plans to invest up to $50 billion to expand supercomputing and AI capabilities for its U.S. government customers, highlighting a broader surge in federal spending on next-generation cloud and artificial intelligence systems.
President Donald Trump has directed the Pentagon to prepare legislation renaming the Department of Defense the Department of War, restoring the historic title used until 1947. The change would require congressional approval.
Lockheed Martin (LMT), a cornerstone of the U.S. defense industrial base, continues to deepen its longstanding partnership with the Department of Defense through a flurry of major contracts in 2025, underscoring the administration's push for American technological superiority and rapid military modernization. In September alone, the company secured a record $9.8 billion award from the U.S. Army for production of Patriot Advanced Capability-3 Missile Segment Enhancement interceptors, the largest in its history, aimed at bolstering missile defense amid escalating global threats. Additional deals include a $720 million contract for Joint Air-to-Ground Missiles and HELLFIRE production, a $610 million modification for long-lead materials on 180 F-35 aircraft, and over $1.4 billion in combined awards for hypersonic weapons, naval systems and rotary-wing support, reflecting sustained confidence in Lockheed's ability to deliver cutting-edge capabilities for warfighters.
HPE shares rose 2.8% in morning trading following the contract announcement. The deal further cements the company’s position as a key supplier to the national security community at a time when the Trump administration has prioritized rebuilding American technological dominance and reducing reliance on foreign computing infrastructure.
