Harris Cites Biden’s Israel Policy as Factor in 2024 Election Loss in New Book
Washington, D.C. — Former Vice President Kamala Harris, in her new book “107 Days” released Tuesday, suggests President Joe Biden’s unpopularity, particularly his perceived unconditional support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in the Gaza conflict, contributed to her 2024 presidential election loss to Donald Trump, according to Axios.
Harris wrote that she urged Biden to express the same empathy for Palestinian civilians as he did for Ukrainians, but his remarks on Palestinians appeared “inadequate and forced” compared to his passionate declaration, “I am a Zionist.” She noted that Netanyahu favored Trump over Biden or herself in diplomatic engagements.
“I believe Israel was right to respond to the atrocities of October 7,” Harris wrote, per Axios. However, she criticized the “ferocity” of Netanyahu’s response, citing the deaths of innocent Palestinian women and children and his failure to prioritize hostages, which she said weakened Israel’s international moral standing and sparked dissent within the country.
Harris lost both the Electoral College and the popular vote to Trump in the 2024 election. A December 2023 Politico article reported Harris pushed for greater White House sympathy toward Palestinians, though her press secretary, Kirsten Allen, insisted there was “no daylight” between Harris and Biden. Allen emphasized their shared stance: Israel’s right to self-defense, the need for humanitarian aid in Gaza, civilian protection, and support for a two-state solution.
