Grasshopper Swarm Floods Las Vegas Strip
A migration of grasshoppers swept through Las Vegas, flooding the strip Friday, July 26. The swarm is being attributed to an unusually wet year so far in Las Vegas. Nevada state entomologist Jeff Knight says the insects neither bite nor carry disease, and they will probably not damage anyone’s backyard before they leave in several weeks. The amount of adult, pallid-winged grasshoppers traveling north to central Nevada is unusual, but not unprecedented, Knight says.
