France Tourists Escape Heat in Eiffel Tower Fountains
Paris tourists sought relief from record-breaking temperatures by swimming in the fountains in front of the Eiffel Tower Tuesday, July 23. Attempting to beat the stifling 35-degree heat, tourists made the most of Paris’ city beach, Paris Plages, next to the river Seine, as well as drinking water and cooling off with the mist machines placed around the city. A record 80 of France’s administrative regions were put on orange heatwave warnings by Meteo France, while a drought has forced the government to impose restrictions on water use in 73 regions.
