FBI Director Patel Vows Thorough Investigation into Kirk Assassination
WASHINGTON — FBI Director Kash Patel pledged that the bureau is fully committed to an “exhaustive and thorough” investigation into the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, ensuring no lead goes unfollowed.
In a detailed statement posted on X on Sunday, Patel emphasized the FBI’s dedication to uncovering all aspects of the case, including the possibility of accomplices in the September 10, 2025, shooting at Utah Valley University (UVU).
“As the Director of the FBI, I am committed to ensuring the investigation into Charlie Kirk’s assassination is thorough and exhaustive, pursuing every lead to its conclusion,” Patel wrote. “The full weight of America’s law enforcement agencies are actively following the evidence that has emerged, but our efforts extend beyond initial findings. We are examining every facet of this assassination.”
The investigation is scrutinizing several elements, including the authenticity of accused shooter Tyler Robinson’s alleged “confession texts,” visits to his residence in the days prior to the attack, the location and angle of the shot, bullet impact, weapon transportation, potential signals near Kirk at the time of the shooting, and related communications such as Discord chats.
Patel noted that not all details can be disclosed immediately to protect the investigation’s integrity. “Some details are known today, while others are still being pursued to ensure every possibility is considered,” he said. “To protect the integrity of the investigation and subsequent prosecution, we cannot release every piece of information we have to the public right now. We will ensure every question is addressed at the appropriate moment.”
Addressing public speculation about a plane reportedly turning off its transponder near the assassination site, Patel clarified, “After interviews with the pilot and consultation with the FAA, we determined the transponder was not turned off. Incomplete flight data in rural areas caused the apparent gap.”
Patel expressed the FBI’s collective grief, stating, “The entire FBI mourns the loss of Charlie Kirk. We will not rest until justice is served, and our investigation into this assassination will continue until every question is answered.”
During House and Senate oversight hearings last week, Patel made similar remarks, reinforcing the bureau’s commitment to the case.
Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect, faces multiple charges, including aggravated murder, two counts of obstruction of justice, felony discharge of a firearm causing serious bodily injury, two counts of witness tampering, and commission of a violent offense in the presence of a child. Utah authorities intend to seek the death penalty.
