Etna Erupts Overnight, Spewing Lava and Ash

Sicily’s Mount Etna erupted overnight, spewing lava flows and sending up plumes of ash.
The spectacular eruption was concentrated near the volcano’s peak.
Large ash clouds forced the closure of the Catania and Comiso airports, but they were able to reopen on Saturday morning.
Etna is one of three active volcanoes in Italy and also is a popular destination for hikers on the Mediterranean island.
