China’s Xi Meets Turkey’s Erdogan in Beijing

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met China’s President Xi Jinping on Tuesday, July 2, in Beijing during his official visit to the country, several days after both leaders appeared at the G-20 summit in Osaka.
Erdogan was welcomed with a guard of honor ceremony at the Great Hall of the People, before he sat down for bilateral talks with Xi to discuss improving ties.
Turkey and China have at times had a delicate relationship. Turkey is one of the few Muslim nations that has regularly expressed concern about Beijing’s treatment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang, including in February at the U.N. Human Rights Council — a move that angered China’s. (Reuters)
