Afghanistan Vice President Candidate Injured in Kabul Blast

A powerful explosion hit central Kabul, Sunday, July 28, wounding Afghan President Ashraf Ghani’s running mate, Amrullah Saleh, on the first day of official campaigning for the presidential elections set to take place in September. Saleh is seen seated alongside Ghani during an election commission event in this file footage from January 2019.

Afghan authorities say the car-bomb-and-gun attack killed at least two people and injured 25 others.

Officials and witnesses said several heavily armed suicide bombers stormed a compound housing the office of Afghanistan Green Trend (AGT), a political movement headed by Amrullah Saleh.

The incident occurred just hours after Ghani and Saleh attended an election rally in Kabul as the official campaign to elect news president of Afghanistan kicked off Sunday.
