India spends billions of dollars on social welfare support for the poor but corruption, fraud and inefficiencies often prevent the benefits from reaching them. But now the government is linking welfare programs to the world’s biggest biometric identity project. Anjana Pasricha reports on how residents of a rural hamlet are benefiting after it switched from cash to digital payments.
