Eco-Friendly Tree Made of Christmas Lights in Italy Is Lit Up

Milan broke with Christmas tradition, Friday, December 6, as a giant cone-shaped metal structure made of lights in the shape of a festive tree was lit in Piazza Duomo.

Thousands of people gathered in front of the Duomo cathedral to watch as the tree, made of 81,448 LED lights powered by energy from renewable sources, was switched on.

Organizers said the 37-meter-tall cone metal tree had a low environmental impact.
